Matei Mihalca

Matei Mihalca advises Sakana AI, the Tokyo-based AI frontier lab, on strategy. He is the founder of Forward Partners, which applies machine learning to understanding the dynamics and economic value of innovation. Earlier, he established the Tokyo and Hong Kong offices of AQR Capital Management and held roles at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Macquarie, and CITIC Capital, having begun his career as the Taiwan semiconductors analyst at Merrill Lynch. He holds an MA in East Asian Studies from Harvard, where he was also a doctoral student focusing on contemporary China. The World Economic Forum named Matei a "New Asian Leader" in 2003.
